The ceramic vessels of Monika Debus move silently between abstraction and representation on the cusp of painting.
Their primary strength lies in the spontaneous painting on clay canvases. Circles, lines and dots form a vocabulary of simple signs while remaining reminders of instinktive bodily movments.
The saltglaze finish evokes a subtle depth within the surface, enhancing their mystic aura. Each individuel piece unveils a private cosmos to the viewer.
